Nawrocki Miscellanea

Here I throw in some miscellaneous pieces of information on the Nawrocki clan which are not extensive enough (yet) to merit their own pages.

Louise and Joseph Nawrocki

In the U.S. at least, the Nawrocki clan begins with Louise (aka Babka) and Joseph.

Here's a link to an 1880 Census page showing their household.

1880 Census for Joseph and Louise Nawrocki

Most of the 1890 Census was lost to fire, so I didn't spend too much time looking for mention of the couple in those records. But I lost a lot of time looking for them in the 1900 Census, until finally I came across this entry for "Louise and Joseph Nawsocki." There is a lot of meat here that one day I hope I have time to chew on.

The tree below captures all of their children, and most of their children's spouses. More work needs to be done here.

Babka and Joseph Nawrocki and Children

What about before their arrival in the U.S.? I have only a hint of that.

It looks as though Joseph was born in Germany in 1854. And Louise (Ludwika) was born in Bydgoszcz, Poland in 1852.

This information comes from this geneaology site. It seems to have been posted by Joe Nawrocki, the son of Babka's son Joseph. One day, hopefully soon, I will contact him for more information.

The homes of the other clans in my father's tree--the Kurlandskis, the Jankowskis and the Marchlewskis--centered around St. Hedwig's Parish on the South Side. The Nawrockis lived a bus ride away--the landmark of their neighborhood being the Famous & Bar department store. For this reason my father did not grow up as close to the Nawrockis as to the other families.

Mary Frances

Frank Nawrocki, in the tree above, had a daughter named Mary Frances. While googling "Nawrocki" I learned that she was the first woman to graduate from St. Louis University's School of Medicine. More on that here.
